The attic loses more heat than any other part of a house. We check air-sealing and ventilation before we add insulation, because piling insulation on top of an air leak just hides the problem.
What we check before we insulate
- Air leaks around can lights, the attic hatch, plumbing stacks, and top plates
- Soffit and ridge venting — blocked vents cause ice dams and moisture problems, not just heat loss
- Existing insulation depth and condition, so you’re not paying to bury a problem
- Baffles at the eaves to keep new insulation from choking off soffit airflow
Then we insulate
Once the air-sealing and venting are right, we bring the attic up to a target R-value with blown cellulose or fiberglass, evenly across the whole floor — not just the easy-to-reach middle. For finished attic spaces or roof decks, spray foam at the rafters is usually the better call; we’ll walk you through which applies during the estimate.
