XPS, EPS, or polyiso foam board installed as continuous sheathing on garages, shops, and exterior walls — it adds R-value over or behind the framing instead of between it, eliminating the thermal bridging that stud-cavity-only insulation leaves behind.
Where rigid board makes sense
- Garage and shop walls where continuous insulation outperforms batt alone
- Exterior sheathing on new construction or re-sides
- Basement and foundation walls, interior or exterior
- Anywhere thermal bridging through studs is the weak link in the assembly
XPS, EPS, or polyiso?
Each board type has a different R-value per inch, moisture tolerance, and price point. XPS (blue or pink board) is the most common for below-grade and general-purpose. EPS is lighter and cheaper. Polyiso has the highest R-value per inch but performs worse in extreme cold. We’ll recommend the right one for where it’s going and what it’s sitting against.
